Because this morning’s weather was fairly cloudy with showers, we didn’t bring the kids out for a walk. We stayed in class all morning to do activities. My teacher prepared a Halloween related activity to class, pumpkin painting. The kids were very happy and excited about the upcoming Halloween.
I had a chat with one of my teacher when the kids were napping. She told me about her experience in engaging the kids with activities. She told me about her thoughts as to how to plan out the classroom’s decoration, along with time management and issues regarding cleaning etc. I learned a lot from this and these topics are very relevant. I hope when I open up my own kindergarten, I can incorporate these ideas into it.
I don’t know why but I feel like some kids in the class are pretty nervous and restless. I saw a few kids exchanging punches with each other and grabbed their opponent’s toy. A kid’s face was scratched in this process. The teacher and I lectured them continuously and warned them. But these punching and pushing incidents still happened. This afternoon, there were already 2 injured kids. A child’s mouth was bleeding and the other one’s face got scratched, this really is scary. Injuries will always happen in these unplanned incidents. We can’t stop it even if we want to, the most I can and should do is to lecture the kids and lower the chances of the kids getting injured.
We did a food science activity in the afternoon. A male teacher came to our class and taught the kids how to make cream. He also taught them knowledge regarding milk. He brought with him tools for the kids to physically squeeze milk out. This is an awesome teaching method. The teacher provided the kids with biscuit that was dipped in cream. The cream was made with milk. The kids ate the biscuit happily and went for a second round. To me, this kind of activity is an exceptionally fun and special experience.
Today was really a busing and fulfilling day. I feel like a lot of things happened but I also learned a lot from it.
