If I were Mayor of Beijing- -

I hosted a discussion among students about If I were mayor of Beijing, how should I solve the traffic problem.

Beijing's traffic is actually not easier than before even though we have more buses, cars, subways and bikes.

People still ride bikes to work if it is within 30 minutes ride. And if it is around one hours, a lot more people take subway or buses.

Subway is very over-loaded, I really worry about it. Hard to imagine that one day something will happen due to overload.

Now the subway feels like old railway and it was moving left and right seriously.

One student did say that the more road you build, the more traffic you have. So we have to limit it to the present scale.

Some say there should be a limitation in the number of people in Beijing.

Others say that more accurate information about traffic should be given and some others say that Beijing does need more subeway lines like Madrid, Paris and London.

Some students also say that people should use more bikes and flexible work schedules should be allowed.

I think the discussion was very good. Next time we will talk about resource efficient society.
