along（介词）沿着，顺着，靠着…边; along the (rail) line沿着铁路线，靠着铁路线
a tiny station （which was）a few miles（away） along the line 铁路线上的一个相距几英里的小站。miles后面省略了away。如：
It is five miles (away) from the station. How many miles (away) is it from this village to the school?
1. 几英里外的小站是后置语，用来修饰威得里。
2. 而中文里一般修饰语前置，所以翻译成开出几英里之外更符合中文习惯。
3. 只要理解其中的意思，可以不用拘泥于其中形式，也有直译和意译。
