Advantages and Disadvantages of Students' Free Selection of Courses

Nowadays, students' free selection of courses has become a topic of heated discussion. Some people argue strongly for its adoption while others turn apprehensive looks at the idea.

In my opinion, we need to be more objective about this idea. In fact,it has both advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, by choosing independently their courses, students will become more motivated in their studies since the courses are what they like or deem important. Besides, it will force the teachers to improve their teaching, if they want their leatures to be attended by any students. On the other hand, however, this freedom in the choice of courses may also lead to something undesirable. For example, students may neglect those courses that are important for forming a heathy knowledge structure but are considered boring by students. In other words, this freedom may result in lopsidedness in students' knowledge.

To wind up, students' free selection of courses is a good idea, but we should also pay attention to its drawbacks and try to avoid them.
