The function of the E-mail is very samilar with the mialbox, users can send message to the receiver no matter he is online. the message will be saved, at the same time, internet will sends a signal which means there is a message waiting to be treated
The E-mail have taken the place of telephone to send massage, users can deal with it when they are available, so they could not be disturbed. also, the message can be shown on the screen and printed out by users
