In 1929,the American explorer ,R.E.Byrd became the first man to fly over the South Pole. He took a lot of photographs during the flight but then ran into difficulties. His plane couldn't get over the mountains so he orded his men to throw out two heavy food sacks. The plane then flew over the mountains and continued without further trouble.(63 words)
